Bringing nuclear medicine to Haifa
In Northern Israel, some patients wait months for certain critical scans – precious time when one may have a serious illness. Bnai Zion Foundation is raising $5.8M to fund a new Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Center to accommodate at-risk patients by reducing the wait for scans that provide critical diagnoses.
“I am contributing to this project in memory of my beautiful sister, who waited too long to receive her diagnosis. I am comforted knowing that someone else may live a longer life because she or he had access to BZMC’s new, cutting-edge diagnostic capabilities.”— Shimon B.
Bnai Zion Medical Center (BZMC) is dedicated to each and every person who walks through its doors. That dedication is fulfilled in part through the promise of nuclear medicine. The potential to identify diseases in their earliest stages, often before symptoms occur or abnormalities can be detected, will extend many lives and grant peace of mind to patients undergoing crucial diagnostic imaging procedures. Bnai Zion Foundation is raising funds for an updated and remodeled Nuclear Medicine and Molecular Imaging Center with SPECT, SPECT CT, and PET/CT scans, relieving long wait times for these tests in northern Israel.
In northern Israel, the wait for nuclear tests and scans is achingly long and can even be fatal. Building a more modern nuclear medicine center in Haifa, equipped with the latest technologies, will help Bnai Zion Medical Center provide critical diagnoses to those in need who are living throughout northern Israel and do not otherwise have access to proper care. The construction and enhancement of the current 25-year-old facility will allow BZMC the ability to reach many more people in need of an early diagnosis, thus greatly increasing the life expectancy of thousands of Israelis in Haifa and Israel’s northern region.
Currently, there is only one PET/CT machine in Haifa, and two in the whole of northern Israel. The PET/CT machine has the unique capacity to diagnose certain cancers and thereby save lives. This machine, as well other diagnostic tools that will be part of Bnai Zion Medical Center’s new department, will reduce the wait time for scans from months to days – precious time for those who may be suffering from serious illnesses.
For the Bnai Zion Medical Center, saving lives requires a global approach: a highly trained medical staff, a state-of-the-art medical facility, and the overall commitment of treating every patient with compassion, kindness, and care.
