A Letter from the President on Yom Ha’atzmaut

April 20, 2018 | in News

Today, along with millions of Jews throughout the world, we at Bnai Zion celebrate the 70th anniversary of the State of Israel and marvel at all of her achievements. There has never been a country in the history of the world that has accomplished so much in such a short time frame. All of this, despite being surrounded by enemies who seek to destroy her.

Today, Israel is a bastion of democracy in the Middle East and has values, morals, and ethics of which we can all be very proud. We in the diaspora cherish our unique relationship with the State of Israel, which remains a home and a safe haven for Jews throughout the world.

Bnai Zion views Israel with a unique pride, as we were in operation even before the State was established. We worked tirelessly to help in the creation of the State of Israel. Today, Bnai Zion is very proud of Israel for its achievements, its accomplishments, and its emergence as a leader in the high tech world.

However, on this day that we celebrate, we also have to remember; we have to remember the tens of thousands of people, both soldiers and civilians, who have given their lives so that we can enjoy the fruits of Eretz Yisrael. We will never forget their unbelievable sacrifice, and find comfort that they achieved their goal of creating a homeland for Jews worldwide.

So today, while we celebrate, let’s also remember—it’s Yom Ha’atzmaut, but it’s also Yom Hazikaron. We as Jews always remember and cherish the past, but we live in the present. May the 70th birthday of the State of Israel be one of blessing and peace. Together, may we at Bnai Zion and all of you celebrate the wonderful achievements of the State of Israel for many years to come.
