Bnai Zion Honors Israel Supporters from Near and Far

On Sunday evening, November 18, Bnai Zion Texas Region held its Annual Gala, with proceeds supporting the construction of Bnai Zion Medical Center’s protected Emergency Room. Zionists from all over the Dallas area and as far as Houston, Washington, D.C., and New York came together in support of Bnai Zion Foundation and its honorees. The Gala was especially meaningful as the medical center’s CEO, Dr. Amnon Rofe, will be retiring this July.

The evening’s honorees were Butch & Julieann Hartman, Pastors Ricky & Cyd Texada, and Anita Weinstein. Butch Hartman, a talented animator whose work includes Nickelodeon’s The Fairly OddParents and Danny Phantom, and his wife Julieann founded Hartman House, which supports people living in poverty around the world. Ricky and Cyd Texada are the pastors of the Colleyville, TX campus of Covenant Church, which has a long history of supporting Bnai Zion. Anita Weinstein, herself a former Bnai Zion employee, is known throughout the Dallas Jewish community for her involvement in local Jewish and pro-Israel organizations.

Diane Benjamin was presented with a token of appreciation for her service as Texas Region president, as her term is now up. CEO Cheryl Bier and National President Stephen Savitsky also thanked David Eisenberg, past President of both the National and Texas Region Boards, for his years of dedication to Bnai Zion.

Stephen Savitsky warmly addressed the close to 230 in attendance, stressing the importance of unity between all who love Israel – Jews and Christians alike.

Looking back on the evening, Stephen said, “The event was electric and I feel honored to have attended. The bonding between the guests was so beautiful to experience.”

Afterward, Dr. Rofe presented updates from the medical center, along with a beautiful video summarizing his 18 years as CEO.

Pastor Ricky Texada inspired the crowd with a message of gratitude and giving. He noted that the Hebrew root for giving, Natan, reads the same backward or forward, signifying that when we give generously, we always receive in abundance in return. Past Texas Region President and National Board Member Larry Strauss then conducted a tremendously energetic Live Auction to purchase vital medical equipment for Bnai Zion Medical Center.

When the auction concluded, Honorees Butch & Julieann Hartman gave a meaningful keynote address, after which Butch generously drew cartoons for three lucky raffle winners in the audience and presented Dr. Rofe with a special painting he created for the pediatric section of the hospital.

Event chairs Summer Pailet and Barry Wernick, together with our committed Board, worked hard to make this event a great success. Honorary chairs Dr. Tim and Virginia Shepherd brought pastors from several area churches with them to become more acquainted with our work. Covenant Church’s Founding Pastor Mike Hayes and his wife, Kathy, attended in support of the Texadas and Dr. Rofe, whom they presented with a gift to commemorate his 18 years at the hospital.

CEO Cheryl Bier said, “This year’s event was incredible! What a beautiful way to say goodbye to Dr. Rofe and honor his 18 years of service at the Bnai Zion Medical Center.”

It was an unforgettable night that we hope will be in the forefront of people’s minds as they continue to support the efforts of Bnai Zion Foundation for another 110 years!
