The National Electrical Code-Course II:
The National Electrical Code (NEC)
And its specific
applications.
This course will concentrate on the specific applications of the code. These supplements are contained in chapters 5 through 8 of the NEC. Such specific applications include: Special Occupancies (hazardous locations, health care facilities, places of public assembly, motion picture and television studios, mobile homes and mobile home parks, floating buildings, temporary installations, etc. ), Special Equipment (electric signs, office furniture wiring systems, cranes and hoists, elevators and escalators, electric vehicle charging systems, swimming pools, solar photovoltaic systems, fuel cell systems, etc.), Special Conditions (emergency systems, legally required standby systems, standby systems, fire alarm systems, etc.), Communication Systems (communication circuits, radio and television equipment, CATV, and network-powered broadband communication systems). Exercises involving building plans will be used to help the student apply his knowledge to actual real world conditions. While the course is not an exam-prep per se, one wishing to pursue a master’s electrician’s license or a professional engineer’s license, should be better prepared upon completion of the course.
Prerequisite: The National Electrical Code-Course I, general knowledge of the NEC, or special permission of instructor.
The required book is the latest edition of NFPA 70 National Electrical Code Manual available online @ http://www.nfpa.org/catalog/.
